Barca-Leeds acknowledges the connection between the climate crisis and the threat this poses to people who use our services and the whole world. Without action, the dangers of homelessness, disease, poverty, food and water shortages for millions of people around the world will increase. In 2019 Leeds City Council declared a Climate Emergency. At present rates, Leeds is forecast to use up our share of the global carbon budget within just 9 years. This science-based carbon budget sets out the amounts of carbon that can be emitted between now and 2050 to keep global warming within 1.5 degrees Celsius. Deeper and faster emission cuts are therefore urgently needed in order to avoid the worst impacts of climate change.
We support Leeds City Council in their aspiration to become a carbon-neutral city by 2030 and are committed to taking collective action to help achieve this ambition. We recognise that our activities have an impact on the environment in terms of the use of raw materials, emissions to air and water, and waste generation. We are committed to minimising the environmental impact of our operations.
