Following last year’s successful events, Barca-Leeds held a community day of fasting and evening Iftar on 22 March to mark Ramadan 2024. The events brought community members and Barca staff together to share a small part of the Ramadan experience.
Once again, our Ramadan activities were led by a group of Muslim staff members who wanted to share their experience of Ramadan.
The inclusive day of fasting was followed by an evening celebration and Iftar, the meal that breaks the fast after sunset. Over 40 people took part in the events that raised awareness and brought different community members together to celebrate.
During our Ramadan activities charitable donations, or Zakat, were made to the Islamic Aid Charity. We would like to thank our fantastic caterer, Nazam's,Kitchen, for the wonderful and delicious food supplied at the event. Nazam's very kindly provided the food for free and a charitable donation of £200 was made to Islamic Aid.
Our Muslim members of staff were also supported to observe Ramadan whilst at work. Dedicated prayer rooms were available to any staff member who required them. Our team leaders and managers were encouraged to have open conversations with staff about flexible working and how best to support them throughout the month. All staff members had access to information and tips on supporting colleagues who are fasting.
